Dumur or bengal fig is something that I have grown up with. My mom loves this vegetable and it is known to provide iron and hence she took all the pain to process it, clean it and finally cook it to our likings. You may see her recipe here in this Dumur er Dalna – Bengali style Fig Curry post. This time, I ger all these fresh dumur from a local market while coming back drom one of our weekly trip. Though it is a pain to process the same, I could do it successfully. Now while cooking, I have added aome soya nuggets to it. It tasted very good and quite filling too. I served Soya Nuggets diye Dumur er Dalna with some roti as part of our week day lunch box.
Ingredients for Soya Nuggets diye Dumur er Dalna
- Dumur or fig – 500 gms
- Potato – 1
- Soya nuggets – 1 bowl, soaked in warm water
- Bayleaf, cumin seeds and dry red chili for tempering
- Tomato – 1
- Onion – 1
- Ginger – 1 inch
- Cumin powder – 1 tsp
- Coriander powder – 1 tsp
- Kashmiri chili powder – 1/2 tsp
- Red chili powder – 1 tsp
- Salt and turmeric- as required
- Sugar – 1 tsp
- Green chili – 4-5
- Mustard oil for cooking
How to make Soya Nuggets diye Dumur er Dalna
Processing of dumur remains the same and you may have a look for that in this post. After processing it, I have pressure cooked it along with potato and a pinch of salt. To cook the same, heat a kadai and add 1 tbsp of mustard oil. Temper it with bayleaf, cumin seeds and dry red chili.
Make a paste of onion, green chili, ginger and tomato and add it to the pan. Fry well. Then add salt, turmeric, cumin and coriander powder and red chili powder along with kashmiri chili powder. With a sprinkle of water fry the masala well.
Next goes the boiled dumur along with boiled potato. I have cubed the potato beforehand. I have also added the soya chunk at this stage. Stir for 1 minute so that the veggies are well coated with the masala.
Next add 1 cup of hot water. Cook over medium heat with the lid on.
Cook for 10 minutes till the soya nugget is cooked thoroughly and gravy reaches the desired consistency.
Adjust the seasoning. Add the sugar at this stage. The sugar is being used to ensure the balance in taste.
Serve with roti or rice.
