I already have another version of patol bharta in my blog where I have used garlic as a masala while frying the mashed parwal to make a bharta. This time, while making the Peyaj diye Patol Bata, instead of garlic, I have added some chopped onion and the taste is completely different. When dear son was visiting home from hostel, I made this and he commented that he can finish the full plate of rice with this. Just imagine how good it was in taste.
Ingredients for Peyaj diye Patol Bata
- Patol or parwal – 6
- Green chili – 7-8
- Onion – 1, chopped
- Salt, turmeric and Sugar – as per taste
- Kalonji seeds – a pinch
- Mustard oil for cooking
How to make Peyaj diye Patol Bata
Cut the parwal into pieces after discarding both the ends. Keep the peel intact. Then grind the parwal with green chili to a paste.
Heat mustard oil in a pan and add some kalonji seeds to it. Then add chopped onion and fry for 2 minutes.
Next pour the ground pareal into the pan. Give it a good mix Nd then cook over low heat for 5 minutes.
Sprinkle salt, turmeric and sugar to the pan and mix well.
Continue frying till all the water evaporates and the mixture starts changing color.
Once oil starts coming out, remove from heat and adjust the seasoning. Serve with plain rice.
