Begun Bori diye Pabda Machher Jhol

I love pabda machh in any form, be it a sorshe pabda or dhonepata bata diye pabda, I have plenty of recipes in my blog on pabda. Few days back, while planning for next day’s menu, when I was taking out the fish from the fridge , I realized that I have never posted a Begun Bori diye Pabda Machher Jhol recipe in my blog. Immediately decided that day’s menu and cooked this . Though it tastes best during winter, but I tried it during summer. Due to absence of dhonepata or coriander leaves, added some tomato, though I am not very fond of pabda and tomato combination before. The output is not bad though.

Ingredients for Begun Bori diye Pabda Machher Jhol

  • Pabda Fish – 300 gm
  • Brinjal – 1
  • Bori or lentil ball – 8-10
  • Tomato 1, chopped
  • Green chili – 5-6
  • Kalo jire – a pinch
  • Ginger paste – 1 tbsp
  • Cumin powder – 1 tsp
  • Coriander powder – 1 tsp
  • Kashmiri chili powder – 1 tsp
  • Salt and turmeric – as required
  • Mustard oil for cooking

How to make Begun Bori diye Pabda Machher Jhol

Fry the fishes with some salt and turmeric till golden brown.

In the same oil, fry the boris also. Remove using a slotted spoon and keep aside.

Now is the turn of the brinjal. Fry them with a pinch of salt and turmeric.

In the same pan, add some more oil. Add the kalo jire and green chili and fry.

Now add chopped tomatoes. Fry till they are mashed.

Make a paste of salt, turmeric, cumin and coriander powder and kashmiri chili powder in water. Soak them beforehand atleast for 15 minutes. Pour the mixture into the pan and fry well.

Once oil starts coming out, add half cup of water and cook the masala again.

Once it starts boiling, carefully add the fried fishes into the gravy. Cook for 2 minutes.

Now slide the fried eggplants into the gravy. Adjust the water and cook covered till the brinjals are cooked through but not mushy.

When almost done, add the fried boris. Boil for 2 minutes and remove from heat.

Adjust the seasoning, and keep covered for 10 minutes.
