Chal diye Pepe Ghonto

Green Papaya is a very regular in my kitchen and we eat this atleast 5 times in a week. I am told that it is very good for your liver. I usually make it as part of our breakfast. This time decided to give it a try in a different format. This Chal diye Pepe Ghonto is in continuation to my journey of cooking vegetables with aromatic rice like gobindabhog. I have tried it in many form, be it with parwal or with cauliflower. I have tried this even with Turnip also. This Green Papaya Curry with Gobindabhog Rice came out really well and we enjoyed the dish with Fulka.

How to make Chal diye Pepe Ghonto

Peel the green papaya and cut them into cubes. Peel the potatoes and cut them too. You may pressure cook them for one whistle and keep aside.

Mix cumin and coriander powder, red chili powder, salt, turmeric and kashmiri chili powder. Add 2 tbsp of water and make a paste.

Fry the boiled vegetable in oil for 2 minutes. Keep aside.

Heat some more oil in a pan and when it is hot, add the hing.

Immediately add the bayleaf and cumin seeds and fry.

Add chopped tomato to the pan and fry till the tomato is mushy.

Next goes the masala paste prepared earlier. Fry well till oil starts coming out.

I have already soaked the rice in water. I have added the rice at this moment along with fresh peas. Fry till it has changed color and water evaporated completely.

Now add 1 cup of hot water to the pan and allow it to boil.

When peas and rice is almost cooked, add the fried vegetable and mix well.

Cook for 5 minutes till the rice is completely cooked and gravy thickens. Sprinkle garam masala powder and add a spoonful of ghee.

Adjust the seasoning, sprinkle the sugar and add few green chilies at the top.

Serve hot.
