Chingri diye Beauli Dal

Today, I am presenting a non veg dal recipe from my kitchen to you. I have cooked mug dal with prawn previously, but never with beauli dal. Today, while cooking a regular dal, added some small prawns during tempering and it is a delicious outcome. Really liked Chingri diye Beauli Dal with plain rice and some patol bhaja by the side.

Chingri diye Beauli Dal

Ingredients for Chingri diye Beauli Dal

  • Beauli dal – 1 cup
  • Prawn – 1/2 cup
  • Bayleaf – 2
  • Grenen chili – 2
  • Salt and turmeric – as required
  • Mouri or fennel seeds – 1/2 tsp
  • Ginger paste – 1 tbsp
  • Hing – a pinch
  • Ghee – 1 tbsp
  • Sugar – 1 tsp – optional

How to make Chingri diye Beauli Dal

Dry roast the dal till it changes color. Then soak the dal in water for 30 minutes. Pressure cook the dal with salt, turmeric and green chili.

The dal should be cooked through but it should retain its shape. Add some water if required.

To temper the dal, I have used hing, mouri or fennel seeds and bay leaf.

Heat ghee in a pan and temper the ghee with the masala mentioned above

Add the ginger paste to the pan . Sprinkle some water and fry till the water evaporates.

Now add the small prawns. I have sauted the cleaned prawn with a pinch of salt and turmeric before.

Stir for a minutes and then pour the boiled dal into the pan.

Boil for 5 minutes stirring in between. Adjust the seasoning and add sugar if using. Remove from heat and keep it for a standing timw of 15 minutes. Serve with plain rice.
