This is kind of a cheat meal, which I cooked few days back. We cook soya nuggets as part of a veg meal, but while cooking this the other day, I have added some prawn paste to the masala and it gave the dish a completely different dimension. I have used some baby potatoes as well, if it is not available, you may use the regular potato. Cooking of Chingri bata diye Soyabean Curry made me super happy to find a way to pep up the otherwise mundane dish.
Ingredients for Chingri bata diye Soyabean Curry
- Soya nuggets – 1 bowl
- Prawn – 100 gms
- Boiled baby potatoes – 8
- Onion – 2
- Tomato – 1
- Green chili – 2
- coconut – 2 slice
- Whole garam masala ( cinnamon, clove, green cardamom )
- Ginger garlic paste – 1 tbsp
- Salt, turmeric, red chili powder – as required
- Coriander powder – 1 tsp
- Fenugreek seeds – a pinch
- Mustard oil for cooking
How to make Chingri bata diye Soyabean Curry
Soak the soya chunks in hot water for 30 minutes. squeeze and keep aside.
Heat oil in a pan, then add 1 chopped onion, coconut pieces and fry with a pinch of salt and turmeric.
Add the prawns too and continue frying.
Cool it and then make a paste out of it.
Add some more oil in the pan and then temper it with methi or fenugreek seed.
Add the boiled potatoes with pinch of salt and turmeric. Fry till golden brown. Keep aside.
In the same oil , add the remaining onion.
Make a paste of tomato with ginger garlic and green chili. Add it to the onion. Fry till the water evaporates and oil starts coming out of the masala.
Now is the time to add the salt, turmeric, red chili powder and coriander powder.
Add the boiled soya chunks and mix well with the masala.
After 5 minutes add the prawn paste and mix well.
Next goes the fried potatoes. Mix well.
Boil 2 cups of water and add it to the mixture. Stir and cook over low heat for 10 minutes.
When the veggies Re cooked through,adjust the seasoning.
When gravy reaches the desired consistency, add chopped coriander leaves and remove from heat.
