Dumur Chingri r Dalna

I have shared a vegetarian version of dumurer dalna with you people few days back. That was my mom’s recipe which I am grown up with. surprisingly, hubby man also has developed a taste for these kind of vegetable and the other day brought a bunch of fresh dumur or fig from the market. The processing is a bit tedious though, but I can proudly say , I am able to manage it. To make it more interesting, I have added some prawns to it and made it the non-vegetarian way. We relished Dumur Chingri r Dalna with rice.

How to make Dumur Chingri r Dalna

Just look at those tiny green cute figs. I love them the way they look.

Soak the dumur in water for 30 minutes. Then rub them to remove any dirt. Strain and keep aside.

Cut the dumur in half and then using the back of a spoon, discard the seeds inside, do it as must as possible. Chop the dumur and boil it in a pressure cooker along with two potatoes for 2 whistle. Let the pressure cooker cool down and then strain. Discard the liquid. Mash the dumur roughly by hand. Chop the boiled potatoes in bite size pieces.

Make a paste of curd, ginger paste, salt, turmeric, cumin and coriander powder and red chili powder. Add 2 tbsp of water and keep aside.

Heat mustard oil in a pan and add the bayleaf and cumin seeds.

Next goes the chopped onion. Fry till golden brown.

Pour the masala paste prepared earlier and mix well. Fry till oil starts coming out of the masala.

Add the boiled dumur and potato to the pan. Mix well.

Fry for 3 minutes till all the dumur is coated with masala.

Now pour 1 cup of hot water. Stir and boil for 5 minutes.

Next goes fried prawns. Mix well.

Cook for 5 more minutes till the gravy dries up. Adjust the seasoning and add the sugar.

Add a spoonful of ghee at the end and sprinkle some garam masala powder. Serve hot.
