A delicacy we enjoy during winter is this ‘sheem bata’ or broad beans bharta. The recipe is similar to my other bharta recipe like this ‘patal bata’ one, and tastes best with plain hot rice or garam bhat as we call it. I really like the tinge of garlic and sometimes add fried chopped garlic to give the taste a boost. You may top it up with some fried onions too. and lastly, the hotness quotient of chilli, it depends on the personal taste, add as many or as less spices as you like and enjoy.
Ingredients for Sheem Bata:
- Sheem / broad bean – 10
- Garlic – 5-6 cloves
- Mustard oil
- Green chilli – as per taste
- Kalojire / kalonji seeds
How to make Sheem Bata:
Wash the broad beans and remove the string from the sides. Steam the beans lightly. Let it get cooled.
Now grind the beans with salt, green chilli and garlic till smooth.
Add mustard oil and when it is hot. Add sliced green chilli and a pinch of kalonji seeds. I have also added some chopped garlic to enhance the taste.
Then add the ground beans and fry till the water evaporates.
Adjust the seasoning. Serve with hot rice.
