A delicacy we enjoy during winter isthis ‘sheem bata’ or broad besns bharta. The recipe is similar to a ‘patal bata’ one, and tastes best with plain rice. I really like the tinge of garlic and sometimes add fried chopped garlic to give the taste a boost.
- Sheem / broad bean – 10
- Garlic – 5-6 cloves
- Mustard oil
- Green chilli – as per taste
- Kalojire / kalonji seeds
Wash the broad beans and remove the string from the sides. Steam the beans lightly. Let it get cooled.
Now grind the beans with salt, green chilli and garlic till smooth.
Add mustard oil and when it is hot. Add sliced green chilli and a pinch of kalonji seeds. I have also added some chopped garlic to enhance the taste.
Then add the ground beans and fry till the water evaporates.
Adjust the seasoning. Serve with hot rice.
