This is for you all fish lovers who cannot think of a meal without fish. Today being saptami, I cannot spend much time in the kitchen hence this fish curry with rice is what I have served to my family. Enjoyed a lot.
- Koi or climbing perch fish – 500 gms
- Potato – 2, cut in the form of finger chips
- Ginger paste- 1 tbsp
- Curd – 2 tbsp
- Cumin seeds – a pinch
- Bayleaf- 2
- Green cardamom – 2
- Cinnamon – 1 inch stick
- Cumin powder – 1/2 tsp
- Coriander powder- 1 tsp
- Red chilli powder- 1/2 tsp
- Salt, turmeric
- Sugar – a pinch
- Ghee – 1 tsp
- Green chilli – 2/3 sliced
- Mustard oil
Clean the fish thoroughly and then marinate for 30 minutes with salt and turmeric. Heat mustard oil in a pan and then fry the fishes. Keep aside.
In the same oil, fry the potatoes too. Keep aside.
Add some more oil to the pan. Now add the bayleaf, cumin seeds, and whole garam masala. Let it splutter.
Add the salt, turmeric, cumin and coriander powder and red chilli powder with a splash of water. Fry till the raw smell is gone and oil starts coming out of masalas.
Add the ginger paste and fry a bit.
Next add the beaten curd and mix well.
Add 1 and half cup of hot water to the masala. Once it starts boiling andd the fried fish and potatoes. Keep cooking over low heat till the potatoes are cooked through and gravy reaches the desired consistency. As it is a rosha, we should have a medium gravy , neither too thin like jhol, nor a thick masala like kaliya.
Adjust the seasoning, sprinkle a pinch of sugar, add the ghee and 2-3 sliced green chilli and it is done. Keep 10 minutes as a standing time and Serve with plain rice.
Posting this as part of my Durgapuja recipe 2019 series. Today is Saptami, that is 7th day of puja.
