This quick recipe is a winner in my family. My hubby is mad about hilsa and if it is available in the fish market, he will bring it no matter how pricey it is. Apart from a normal ‘ilish bhaja” or ‘ilish tel er chorchori’ this one is another very loved dish. Found this recipe in one of the Sananda magazine long back and made it several times so thought to jot doen the recipe here. Perdon me for the poor image quality since the photograph was taken at night.
- Hilsa fish – 4 pieces
- Onion – medium, 1/2
- Ginger paste – 1/2 tsp
- Vinegar – 1 tsp
- Salt, turmeric
- Mustard oil
Wash and pat dry the hilsa pieces. Make a paste of onion, ginger, vinegar, salt, turmeric.
Marinate the fish pieces in this masala for 2 hours.
In a pan, heat one tbsp of mustard oil. Then carefully place the marinated fish and fry on medium heat.
Flip and fry the other side too. Make sure the masalas are not burnt. Adjust the flame as per the need.
Remove from heat and place it on a serving plate. Pour a spoonful of melted ghee on the top and serve immediately.
